Posted: July 22, 2007

For those of us that are parents, we know how fast babies grow within their first few years. This makes buying clothes a challenge because before you realize it, they have already outgrown their outfits. We want our babies took look cute and fashionable but we also need to remember, their comfort is important. Below I listed some helpful tips for buying baby clothes to save you some time and money.

Pay Special Attention to Clothing Sizes
Purchase baby clothes that are a size or two larger than what they really are. Many new parents find out when buying for the exact size will usually lead to an outfit that doesn't fit or their baby grows out of it in a matter of days. Also take in consideration that most clothes will shrink to a degree after the first wash. If the clothing is too big for them now, they will always grow into them and believe me, it won't take very long.

Functional Clothes
The toddler or baby clothing you buy could have an accessory piece/s that may function as a design element or a fastener, like buttons and zippers. Items like bows and buttons should be situated where it is not uncomfortable for your baby. Remember, they are laying and crawling most of the time. Especially pay special attention to button or bow items that may easily come off where your baby may choke on it. Clothes with easy access to diaper changes and quick clothing changes are very helpful.

Consider Neutral Clothing
If you prepare now and buy neutral clothes that is suitable for both boy and girl could save you money in the future when and if another child is added to the family. Types of neutral clothes are items that are gray, green, orange, and yellow in color.

Wash Clothes First
You should always wash new baby clothes before your baby first wears them. Most babies have sensitive skin and by washing baby clothes first will help to prevent from rashes or irritation.

Pay Special Attention to Baby Clothing Sales
You can save a tremendous amount of money whey you buy baby clothes during sales. Even if the clothes are out of season or too large, you know they will grow into it very quickly. Hand Me Downs are Good If a family or friend offers their old baby clothes, don't hesitate to say, “yes”. Your baby does not care what he or she is wearing or if it's been worn by another baby. Most likely, these clothes may have never been worn before or only worn a few times. Nothing beats free baby clothes, especially when you are on a budget.

There are many options for baby clothes out there and choose wisely before buying and keep in mind the tips mentioned above. Baby's comfort and clothing function are important and not all cute baby type clothes meet that need.
