Whether you are the happy parent or another friend or relative of a brand new baby, it is very important that you do not fall victim to some of the common mistakes that can be made when buying baby clothes. When it comes to baby clothing, you will actually find that it can be quite a bit more difficult than you would originally think. This is due in part to the fact that there are many important staples that should be a part of regular baby apparel. These items will include onesies, sleepers, outfits, bibs, socks, body suits and much more. In order to keep yourself from falling into an endless cycle of mistakes, it is best that you learn what some of the mistakes are.
Mistake #1:
Choosing articles of clothing in the moment. When you think about it, a baby is constantly growing. If you have a three month old, the last thing you will want to do is purchase something that states a size that will fit between zero and three months. In this case, you will want to step it up to the next size of three to six months. After all, babies can grow fast, and it is always best to have baby clothes that they can grow into and wear several times instead of something that will only be able to be worn once and then you find it does not fit anymore.
Mistake #2:
Turning down hand me downs. You may not realize it now, but hand me downs can be a wonderful way to outfit your child in some amazing baby apparel, with little or no cost to you at all. Check with some of your friends and relatives to see what they have left over from their kids and you may be able to add several valuable pieces of baby clothing to your child's collection.
Mistake #3:
Never pass up a sale. Even when you find that it is the end of a season, look to see what there is going on sale in larger sizes. This way you can save some money and get a good jump start by purchasing apparel for your baby for the next season!
Mistake #4:
Choosing materials that are too restrictive. When it comes to having a baby, you will end up seeing that they like to have the freedom to wiggle around. Especially when the child grows older, you will see that restrictive baby clothing will hinder their ability to roll, crawl and walk. Make sure you have items that are durable and comfortable for your baby including rompers, soft and stretchy pants and plenty of t-shirts.
Mistake #5:
Completely forgetting about changing time. Never forget that you will have to change your baby, sometimes in a setting that is restrictive such as a changing table in a restaurant. It is important that you choose baby clothing that has easy open features such as snaps.
Mistake #6:
Not buying enough of the most important items. Some parents will tell you that onesies are items that you cannot live without. It may be in your best interest to find out what your baby's necessities are in terms of apparel and make sure that you always have plenty on hand.
Mistake #7:
Always buying for looks. Certainly, you want your child to look their best at all times. However, sometimes the cutest baby clothes are just not practical. Take the time to look for cute clothes that work well for your baby's comfort. You will find that there are plenty of pieces available that are a good combination of style and comfort.
Mistake #8:
Not trying clothing on. For obvious reasons, you cannot always take your baby into a changing room to try out their clothing. Be sure that you keep the tags on any items of apparel that you are unsure about the fit. This way you will have an easy way of returning them if they don't fit the way that you would like.
Mistake #9:
Dangerous baby clothing. Although many clothing manufacturers will provide clothing that is safe for babies and children, it is still important to look and make sure that the clothing is flame retardant as well as free of small pieces that can come loose and pose a choking hazard.
Mistake #10:
Cutting corners. While not everyone can spend hundreds of dollars per month on baby apparel, you still want to make sure that you have quality baby clothing for your little one. Spending a bit more on certain pieces can help you to be sure that they will last and stand up to the test of an active baby.
